ANNOUNCEMENT [25 Jan 2005|10:55pm]
[ mood | blank ]

Hello all,

As you may well have noticed J-melody has been inactive for a number of weeks.

Unfortunately - not because I want to, this site will have to come to a close.

This probably would have happened a long time a go if it wasn't for my friend who ran this site during a 10 week period when I was at university.
I'm not going to ask my friend to do it again because she has other commitments in her life. Unfortunately, so do I.

I would LOVE to keep this site going, and I can imagine this is going to be really disappointing for everyone who comes here - especially now that a lot of bit torrent trackers have gone down.

Basically there are two reasons I can't maintain this site.
Firstly and most importantly, the courses I take are pretty demanding, and I'm not left with a lot of free time.
J-melody really is something I love doing. Perhaps in the future when I have more time I could run another mp3 rotation. But the amount of work required to run this site leads to an enormous amount of time that I don't have to spare.

Secondly, where I am staying doesn’t allow me to download music anymore, so obtaining things in the way I used to - posting up things before they come out - is impossible.

I never wanted to do this, and I'm really really sorry.
I wish there was a way around it, but there isn't. Not right now anyway. T_T

Thanks to everyone who supported this rotation.

Making one of these is something I always wanted to do, and it's been really cool getting to do it. ^^

Once again, thanks for your support.

Becki ^_^

Consisting of three members - Diggy-MO'(Main MC), Bro.Hi(Human Beat Box/MC) and Shinnosuke(Trackmaster) - SOUL'd OUT formed in 1999 and started their career in 2001 doing various club acts and collaberations.
Their first single was a top 20 hit,the second single "Flyte Tyme" reaching top ten and both remaining in the charts at the same time. The group conducted their first tour in february 2003 after 4 chart singles and their debut album, self-titled, 'SOUL'd OUT' was released in November 2003. Since then they have had a string of hit singles including a tv theme.
In 2004 they recorded the sell out song 'Candy Pop' along with hip-hop duo Heartsdales.

♪ Notes//
SOUL'd OUT have never been a group I have delved into outside of their collabs with more trademark artists such as DOUBLE and Heartsdales.
Therefore without ability to compare, I can say they seem pretty upbeat and have a possitive agression about them. In a way they remind me of a male version of Heartsdales with their mix of singing and rap skills and frequent use of English in the choruses fo their songs.
'To All My Dearest' shows a softer sound to the trio where the rapping is conducted almost like talking. It also happens to have a really nicely sung chorus and incorperates a jazz solo. A nice effort, which has made me a little more interested in finding out about their past work.

It's been a long time since I've listened to HALCALI. They were actually one of my first Jpop interests. Anyway, those who are familiar with HALCALI, this is typical of their sound. To those who haven't ever tried them, they are definately worth listening to. Their style is as upbeat as upbeat gets conveyed through mainly rap. If you don't like rap don't let that put you off. The songs have brilliant compositions which somehow makes up for the lack of singing and makes HALCALI one highly addictive sounding group.
These girls are absolutely crazy. They make great MVs and songs that have 'Real Jpop' stamped all over.
This song sounds like something out of a musical mixed in with the 'woop woop's of Morning Musume.
HALCALI are another group I highly recomend. This song like all of theirs is simply fun and funky - not to be missed.

As a new artist, I've been really impressed with Miliyah so far (despite the surgery rumours) and hope she continues producing great music. It was while out at a kareoke one fateful night that Ayumi was introduced to record company AVEX producer Matsuura Masato whom, upon spotting the young woman's potential, offered her vocal training classes. Allowing Ayumi the freedom to write her own songs, she was able to express her feelings in a way she had never known before.
Her first two singles tanked, the second two barely reached the top ten, but then 'Love~Destiny~' went straight in at number 1 on the Oricon in April 1999. Soon she met her present manager, Claudia Chung who signed Kelly up with her first record company, 'Go East', Kelly released her debut album in 1995 and had since become huge in Hong Kong and other neighbouring Asian countries.
Her first live tour was held in 1997 proving to be a big success. In the same year Kelly released her first Japanese single in Japan although it failed to hit the high on the charts Kelly's image and style was admired but the Japanese, being 180cm in height [about 5'8"] with attractive and elegant features as well as being able to speak Japanese it was not hard for Kelly to go unnoticed in Japan. She appeared in Japanese CMs and fashion magazines which later progressed to starring in a J-drama with Kyoko Fukada, the two have become good friends ever since.

Travelling back and fourths to Japan at the time Kelly became more exposed to J-music, in 1999 when Utada Hikaru released her debut single 'Automatic' followed by the album 'First Love' it attracted Kelly's attention straight away, she admired Hikki's R&B style and especially the song 'Automatic', hence it inspired Kelly to have a go at doing a cover of the song as well as to try the R&B genre for the first time. Kelly's version released in the same year featuring as a special extra in her first 'best-of' mandarin compilation album.
Regardless of how popular the cover was Kelly's popularity had already been rising and continued to rise. She later released another single in Japan followed with an album in 2002 as well as starring in the movie 'Calmi cuori Appassionati' with actor Yutaka Takenouchi. With all this happening at the same time she was still able to keep up her achievements back at home in Hong Kong as well as Taiwan, Singapore, China and Malaysia.

Kelly's hetic schedule started to slow down at the end of 2003 as her record contract with 'Go East' was coming to an end. I'm not quite sure if she had decided to move record companies or not though finally after another 'Best-of' collection released in December 2003 brand new album 'Stylish Index' released after much anticipation in September this year with positive reviews.

Back to the song uploaded, a cover of Hikki's Automatic which you may or may not have heard of, without a doubt the original is obviously better, the main difference being both cover and original have their own feel and emotions, Kelly's version sounds more mature particularly in the lyrics and in the way she manages the song with her voice.

SweetS ~ into the daylight ~hikari sasu hou he~ ~ SNATCH

Style - Pop

Release - 2004.11.03

SweetS are Aki, Aya, Haruna, Miori and Mai, a group of five girls aged between 12-13 at present. The girls were chosen in 'Avex Audition 2002'.
The producer BOUNCEBACK recognised by his work with BoA and Ayumi Hamasaki was invited to p pduce for SweetS, surely enough SweetS made their debut in August 2003 with 'Lolita★Strawberry in Summer' ranking high on the charts for a consecutive five weeks and even making the TOP 100 ranking for that year.
Their First mini-album 'SWEETS' released on March 2004.

'Sky' is SweetS 5th single, highly anticipated though somewhat disappointing, the coupling track 'into the daylight' composed by BOUNCEBACK seems better than the A-side in my own view, nothing too exciting though reasonably enjoyable nevertheless.

Hello!! Looking at Oricon, Orange Range fans will be pleased to know that 'Hana' is still dominating the charts, though nevertheless this week's releases aren't that great either with only Gackt managing to jump to number one once, Orange Range is still sitting comfortably at no. 1 at present.

Six new/relatively new songs picked out this week including the requested. Also added one C-pop song since the genre was wanted and an Indies track as usual.

Any requests are to be left in your comments, I'll try my best.
Enjoy!!~

Official Website

speena is a band of 3 girls, Kanako [vocals], Shiho [guitar] and Shoko [drummer].
All three members have had experiences in other bands before. Moreover, Shiko and Shoko met in 1997 and paired to form a band, it wasn't until two years later when they met Kanako and became 'speena'! A year later in October 2000 speena released their debut single 'Calm Soul'. Their most popular single was their third release in 2001 August 17th titled, ジレンマ [Dilemma] sustaining top ranking on Oricon for an amazing ten weeks!

'Chu Chu de Vista!!' is their much anticipated 2nd album released this month, 月に鳴く [tsuki ni naku] comes from their 9th single, the song reminds me very much of their classic 'Dilemma', another wonderful ballad, speena is a band that has a unique characteristic touch which can be heard in especially the vocalist's voice. May be I'll upload 'Dilemma' sometime since it really is worth checking out for those who've missed it.

speena's 10th single is due to release on December 15th!

Kaela entered the media at 2002 as Japanese 'Seventeen' magazine's model.
She also appears on the popular TV show of TVK [Television Kanagawa] 'Saku Saku'.
Her first single came in June 23rd this year titled, 'Level42'.

'Happiness' is Kaela's second single, I quite like this song, glad that I've found the CD rip to share for this update; though perhaps you'll probably find 'Happiness!!' is nothing too special really, which you'd be right in thinking, but its definately very enjoyable and up beat, not forgetting 'happy' =P

Lead - Delighted ~ SNATCH

Single - 手のひらを太陽に/Delighted
Style
- Pop, Rap
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.10.27
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★☆☆
</b> Official Website

Lead started off with three members, Shinya Taniuchi, Akira Kagimoto and Hiroki Nakadoi who all met at Osaka 'Caless Vocal and Dance School'.
Together they were known as 'remix' but in May 2002 the group title became 'flow', further changes were about to come as they were looking to recruit an additional forth member. The search was over when they discovered Keita Furuya, who had succeeded out of over 8000 hopefuls in the Okinawa 'Star Light' new talent audition. Keita finally became the forth member on 18th May 2002.
Shortly after the complete group formation 'flow' became to be known as 'Lead'.

At the beginning of July 2002 Lead held their debut street live performance at Osaka Castle Park, attracting 7000 spectators.

After their 2nd album this Summer, 'BRAND NEW ERA', Lead is back with their 7th single 手のひらを太陽に/Delighted, a double A-side release, ranked at number 5 on it's debut at Oricon.
I prefer 'Delighted' much more than 'Tenohira wo Taiyou ni''. Delighted continues with their focus, a pop and urban fusion that is progressing steadily and suiting their style much more, however, there is still room for more improvement.

Pace Wu ~ 閃著淚光的決定 [Tear Shining Decision] ~ SNATCH

Album - 少女標本/Kira Kira Bishojo
Style - Pop
Language - Mandarin
Release - 1998.May
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★☆
Official Website

Pace was originally a model, starting at the age of 15, she had the perfect height, figure and trendy teenage image to match that got her jobs in even Japan and Korea for television commercials.
She was also the face of many beauty brands and frequently appeared in several glossy magazine titles including ELLE and VOGUE.

Pace left her modelling career in 1997 and signed with ROCK RECORDS AND TAPES who had already produced some of the big names in Taiwanese pop including Karen Mok.
Pace's debut came when she was 19, her single was titled 'My Pace' released in May 1998, the A side, which is the song uploaded, is a cover of a Japanese song I believe, I heard a Japanese version by chance when I was walking past a shop in Japan -If you know the title and name of artist who sang the Japanese version please let me know! -Got the answer, the song is a cover of Okamoto Mayo's 'Tomorrow', thanks to Mippa for the answer ^^

Pace was once big in Taiwan as well as Hong Kong and other neigbouring Asian countries, thanks to her record company who also signed three other potentials at the time, the four girls, Pace, Yuki, Angelica and Cheer were heavily promoted together in a cute, trendy Japanese image. They released a special debut compilation together titled 少女標本/'Kira Kira Bishojo'. No doubt the hype of Japanese pop was the most suspectable cause for this, it was the late 90's and Jpop was becoming hot in Taiwan.

After her 3rd and final single Pace's debut album followed in December of the same year releasing in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China as well as Taiwan, this was however also her last ever release.

In March 2000 Pace went back to her modelling career and resided in Japan. She later returned home and acted in movies. In 2003 she appeared in the second series of the popular Taiwanese drama 'Meteor Garden 2' [流星花園II] as well as starring in Japanese movie '4 MOVEMENT', her second movie in Japan 'INTO THE SUN' opens next year.

Back to this song, it was the only song I ever liked of Pace and had since been a favourite of mine, although it was released in '98 it doesn't sound near as old whilst maintaining a slight classic touch of '90s pop. Highly recommend for Jpop lovers!

'Sonan' [Accident] is the second single after the hit 'Gunjo Biyori' I've been looking forward to hearing more from the Shinna Ringo led band 'Tokyo Jihen' since the debut. The keyboard player Hiizumi Masayuki is a member of the Jazz genre band PE'Z.

It's the pillow's 15th Anniversary! Who are the pillows? Here's some history dug up:

the pillows formed in 1987 when the legendary '80s J-Rock band Kenzi & the Trips split up. Former 'Trips' Kenji Ueda [Bass] and Shinichiro Sato [Drums] teamed up with Yoshiaki Manabe [Guitar] and Sawao Yamanaka [Vocals].

The band had toured and performed for almost three years before being offered a contract with Captain Records as 'the pillows'. Their debut EP was the re-recording of their five-song demo tape 'Pantomime'. Their second EP, '90s My Life' immediately followed.

the pillows released their first album 'Moon Gold' in 1991 after signing onto 'Pony Canyon', soon in 1992 when their second album 'White Incarnation' was recorded Ueda their bassist left the band, four members have since become three, Ueda was never properly replaced so instead a series of guest bassists was used including Tatsuya Kashima of Bad Face and Jun Suzuki of The Chewinggum Weekend.

In 1994 the band moved yet again signing to King Records and released 'Kool Spice', their major-label debut. It wasn't until 1997 when the band finally hit the high releasing 'Please Mr. Lostman'. followed by a series of hit singles that led them into mainstream success in Japan. After a more than successful tour the pillows went onto releasing three increasingly successful follow-up albums over the next two years including 'Little Busters', 'Runners High' and 'Happy Bivouac'.

It was the licencing of three albums of the band in 1999 by 'Gainax' anime studio for 'FLCL' that gained the pillows further success. The pillows had even composed two singles 'Ride on Shooting Star' and 'I Think I Can' for the anime. Although the activity of the pillows began to fall in the following years the 'FLCL' soundtrack sold well, including their best-of compilation album 'Fool on The Planet'. Furthermore in 2002 the anime was released in America winning more converts to the band, this also came in time with the release of their 10th album 'Thank You, My Twilight', along with a double-album collection of B-sides, 'Another Morning, Another Pillows'.

Today in the year 2004 the pillows have reached their 15th Anniversary! Congratulations!

This is the pillows latest single, I haven't been listening to them for as long as their anniversary year though one things for sure, the new single rocks, a very enjoyable track.

the pillows are due to release an album on November 11th titled 'GOOD DREAMS'.

RUN&GUN ~ BELIEVE ~ SNATCH

Single - RUN&GUN
Style
- Pop, Retro 70-80's disco sound
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.08.18
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★☆
</b> Official Website

RUN&GUN were chosen from an audition held in Osaka of 1000 people.
'LAY-UP!' was their debut single released in July 2001, a song full of energy! They released their first album 'FACE' last year containing all their hit singles from their 2 years.

The latest single 'BELIEVE' is arranged by 'DANCE☆MAN' of Avex which can only mean one thing, mirror ball, funky 70's-80's disco dance floor music, an un-canny yet perfect match for RUN&GUN's style! Great song and grooves, which makes it a shame that the single didn't get much press. Though I guess its because they are now with a smaller record company, they have moved from Epic Records to R&C Japan, this is their first single since their move.

I've always liked RUN&GUN's music since being introduced by a friend, especially their debut 'LAY-UP!', their current single was no disappointment when compared to their past hits. I was in fact pleasently surprised, I'm glad to hear they're back.

Sentiline, short for 'sentimental line', is a new J-indie [soft] rock band, in fact 'Boku no sumu machi' [The town where I live] is their first single that only just released in June this year.
The band consists of 4 members all aged 22 at present, the guys met at university in April 2001, it was in August of the same year when the true formation of the band and music began.

Good luck to them, hopefully they'll reach their target, a J-indie band with only one debut single still has a lot to achieve before they can have their name heard, though I've always felt a good thing about checking out indie band debuts is that you always get to hear more out of what the band's music is truly like, often this is derived from their own personal experiences and inspirations making their music somewhat unique, arguably dependant on how good the band is and how much effort they put in, though generally a pure source of sound un-disturbed by any major record company decisions or pressure to follow what was most popular in their past releases as a formular.

At the moment sentiline's lives are concentrated in Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto, with only 2 gigs performed in Tokyo so far -Shibuya and Shinjuku.
Well I guess I've done my job and supported them by buying their single in Japan, this is one of my favourite tracks out of the four in the single. Nice laid back rock sound.

Hiro's latest single is the theme song for the manga turned live action movie 'Devil Man', the movie released not long ago in Japan on October 9th.

'Hikari no naka de' is a slow moving ballad.
I was curious to hear what this latest single from Hiro would be like, its actually nothing too exciting, I decided to put it up anyway for those who may be interested or curious as well.

'Tasogare Surround' is Rip Slyme's latest single released on 6th October debuted at no.4 on ORICON.
The track sounds much more laid back when compared to the funky beats and rap in their last two singles 'GALAXY' and 'Dandelion', hence it may take some time to get used to if you're more into that kindda stuff.

Rip Slyme are due to go on their 'RIP SLYME MASTERPIECE TOUR 2004' in Japan between November 27th and December 28th, tickets are already on sell. More info at their official site.

They started by doing lives in their home town Okinawa and released their debut mini album on February 22nd 2002 under a private Okinawan record label 'Spice Records', their first single released four months later in August, soon they were able to shift their live performances outside Okinawa and play in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka.

In 2003 they signed with SONY MUSIC's sub record label 'gr8! records' and released their debut 'キリキリマイ' on 4th June.
Their 3rd single ビバ★ロック [Viva★Rock] [-Japanese side version] became the the third closing theme to anime NARUTO, ranking at number 3 for a consecutive two weeks on Oricon.

First album '1st Contact' released in December 2003 debuting at no. 2.
Their first major live tour, 'ORANGE RANGE LIVE TOUR 004' was scheduled in July this year and became a major sell out with even additional dates added.

Orange Range's 7th single Hana [花] is due out on October 20th! This could be next week's ORICON no.1 judging by their popularity and level of anticipation.
Here's a good quality PV rip of the song for you to sample in the meantime. 17th Oct edit: CD rip.
A change from their 'funky' rock tunes, 'Hana' is a ballad track.

Double A-side single - GIRL TALK/ the SPEED STAR
Style - R&B/Pop
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.14.10
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★☆
Official Website

Back in the 90's Namie Amuro became one of the biggest pop singers in Japan!
She started singing at the tender age of 12 in a small Okinawan supermarket. In 1992 Namie took the first steps to changing her dream to reality by pairing with four classmates from her acting school and formed the 'Supermonkeys', a group of four girls that specialised in Eurobeat songs. Their music caught the attention of top producer Tetsuya Komuro, Komuro decided to offer Namie a contract and soon he began producing songs for her, the first hit was 'Body Feels Exit' which shot straight to success! Repeat performance came to place with every single Komuro produced for Namie.

Today, still as popular as ever Namie has since taken a major turn in her career and is now doing urban and R&B music in relations with the producer Dallas Austin.

Congratulations to Namie! Her latest 28th single GIRL TALK/ the SPEED STAR debut at no.1 on ORICON!
A double A-side single with two editions identified by two different covers, one contains a 'bonus' DVD.
After the ballad release 'ALL FOR YOU' in July Namie is back with more Urban sound.
I'm not sure if I like this single yet, may be it'll take time to get used to.

Official Website

MISIA first debuted in 1998 with the album 'Mother Father Brother Sister', her second album released in January 2000 'LOVE IS THE MESSAGE' sold a record 220,000 copies! MISIA has released six albums to date as well as a handful of remixed and special edition cuts. She gradually gained recognition because of her deeeeand strong vocals, and has risen to become one of Asia's biggest stars. Little is known about MISIA's real character. The name MISIA comes from a combination of her real name, Misaki, and the word 'Asia'. The young artist varies in style from pop, urban and even samples at rock. She is most noticed for her ballads, particularly the song 'Everything' from her 2001 album, 'Marvelous' which spent a record number of weeks at number 1 on the Oricon.

IN MY SOUL was featured in the album 'MARS & ROSES' released in February this year. Even though I don't really listen to MISIA much personally IN MY SOUL has really caught my attention.

Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.08.04
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★☆

As with most Indies band ART-SCHOOL started by playing at clubs and festivals and in 2002 the band was able to get a time slot to play at the Fuji Rock Festival.
That same year, they also got a contrack with Toshiba-Emi and released the single 'Diva'.
In January 2003 they held a sell out concert at the Shibuya Club Quattro, they continued too sell out in concerts they performed at.
In March 2004, a bassist and guitarist formally joined the band.
ART-SCHOOL also appeared at this year's sell out ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2004.

I happened to have picked up their album whilst in Tower Records Japan when it released in August this Summer, pretty good stuff though I heard their pervious albums are actually better than this current release.
ART-SCHOOL appears to be one of those Japanese bands that have a considerable Western influence to their sound.

LOW IQ 01 ~ Miracle [Rock] ~ SNATCH

Album - MASTER LOW 3

Release - 2004.07.07

The man behind LOW IQ 01 [Master Low] is a great musician as well as a punk artist, the style of his music varies from jazz, disco, rock and more. His albums feature an array of Japanese musicians, he also collaborates and produces.
MASTER LOW 3 is LOW IQ 01's 3rd album.
LOW IQ 01/MASTER LOW has played at several major events including FUJI ROCK '02 and have currently a whole line up of events across Japan this month.
MASTER LOW also appeared in this year's 'ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2004' performing a total of 11 tracks.

'MASTER LOW 3' is the much anticipated album released over 2 years after the 2nd album 'MASTER LOW 2'. The debut album 'MASTER LOW' released on November 19th 1999.

If you're checking out LOW IQ 01 for the very first time then beware of the Engrish, ie: English with heavy Japanese accent, all vocals are in English though despite this MASTER LOW's composition of great music does not fail to impress and has always been greatly admired.
I decided to put two tracks up from his current album, it was difficult to choose, both are worth sampling, one disco/funk, the other rock.

I wasn't planning to add Mika into this entry as she already appeared last week but I've just got hold of the tracks from her latest 13th single and I am pleased to say that I am quite pleasantly surprised, I particualry like the B side 'Carrot & Whip'. I know I put pop as the genre for this song but there's actually something to it as well, can't quite put my finger on the name.
The single is definately worth checking out.

Congratulations to Hikki! EXODUS finally released in the US last week!

Since most of you must have heard EXODUS as well as her past Japanese releases lets sample something different. Here is a remix track of FLY ME TO THE MOON from a limited LP release in year 2000 containing 4 tracks, all of which are remixes of FLY ME TO THE MOON.
This is the most creative remix out of the four I felt.
Hikki's original cover version of the song is obviously better, though the remix can also be fun to check out.

Mika's ambition had always been to become a singer, straight after graduating from high school she went onto following her dreams and sent a demo tape to a record company, Mika was chosen out of 3000 people.
As a result in October 2001 Mika starred in a Fuji television drama which also featured her song 'STARS' as the theme tune. Mika's sucess and popularity has continued to grow ever since.

'Oborodukiyo Inori' is a track from her limited mini album, only 100,000 copies were available.
The track is a ballad with the very beautiful calming vocals of Mika, the song has a touch of fantasy yet mystical feeling, as felt from the mood of the album cover image.

There after Jay began song writing in the music industry. In 2000 his hard work and skills paid off and landed him in an offer to become a singer. In November 1st 2000 Jay made his debut with the self-titled album Jay, his infectious tunes and soulful voice were well-received by listeners.
Jay's popularity has continued to grow ever since along with his creativity and talents in music composition.

This is one of my favourite tracks from his current album, 'Qi Li Xang' which unfortunatley wasn't a very impressive album compared to his past releases.

Introduction ^^ [02 Oct 2004|02:55am]
[ mood | okay ]

Hello!!

This is J-melody's friend, aka new 'business' partner XD

As you may have read from her last entry she has moved away from home and is unfortunately still unable to gain access to any file sharing programs, which means she won't be able to update again until this Winter vacation.

So during this short period I shall be maintaing J~melody which means your next update will be arriving very soon, or to be more precised this Sunday, 3rd October.

note: although my 'business' partner and I share some similarities in taste of music I also like J-Rock/Punk and Indie so these genres will be introduced in the following updates to come as well as J-Urban, J-Pop etc.

I've changed the layouts to reflect a change, the last one was version 1.0 featuring BoA, titled 'My Name' by J~melody ^^

The current one is version 2.0 featuring, -well I wonder who can guess who it is in the icon? ^^

What's happening with this rotation [24 Sep 2004|12:43pm]
[ mood | good ]

I'm sorry to be leaving all you guys in the dark as to what's going on with this site. I'll just try to explain here so you know I haven't completely forgotten about this rotation. =)
Ok, as I explained I have moved away from home. During the first week away I had no internet connection. When I finally did get the internet set up, I couldn't connect to any file sharing things like WinMX, which is basically what I rely on to get music for this roation.
As things stand at the moment, I still don't have any p2p networks working. I am trying to do something about it, so please bare with me. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I should have something sorted out.
Thanks for being patient and thanks for all your comments.
Oh, I am still taking a note of requests so once I fix this problem *fingers crossed* I will post all the requests up. ^_^

UPDATE > BoA, A-mei, Utada, Kazami, DOUBLE, Meyou, Zoey, Moomin, day after tomorrow [27 Aug 2004|02:44am]
[ mood | happy ]

As you may have guessed by now, I'm really rubbish at updating when I say I will, but then when I do update, I try to make it good. I hope also that people are liking the songs and I hope you feel there is some variation at least. I know I tend to lean more toward R&B stuff so if you want to see other genres, unfortunately you have to request it. If you don't like it then go away! =D (jk) ~ but please tell me what you think of the variation and the updates in general. Any feedback is gladly received.
Hopefully next week's update should be in a week exactly and I'll try sticking to a schedule (for once) xD!
Oh, been playing with the layout features a little bit. The first person to tell me what's different gets a prize (It could happen!). ^^

Album - Brave

Language - Mandarin
Release - 2003.07.25
Quality - High

</b> Official Website

The touching story of A-mei's success started when she entered a singing contest at the request of her ill father, someone who had encouraged the young girl from an early age that she had great talent. A-mei won the contest, pressuring herself to please her father and make him proud. Sadly however, her father passed away before he could hear the news of his daughter's victory.
Later, A-mei was offered the chance to perform in a group with her cousin, and together they traveled around Taiwan singing in pubs. It was through this that A-mei landed a spot singing the theme song to a program in Taiwan for the "Flying Disc Channel", her first big break, which led onto a collaberation with a well-established artist, Zhang Yusheng singing "The One Who Loved Me Most, Hurt Me the Most".
Thereafter, A-mei's debut "Jie Mei" became an instant smash making A-mei one of the biggest overnight sensations in Chinese pop history.

If you liked the sound of Jung Chul from last update (Fina =D), you will like this. I adore A-mei's voice so much. I could listen to this one song on repeat all night and not get tired of it. Even her 'oohs and aahs' are enough to make me start crying. *__* LOL!! But really, A-mei, is an amazing entertainer. her voice is so soft and pretty, and especially with a ballad such as 'Brave' ~ it really suits her voice. I'm sorry I never discovered her sooner as she's someone who's quite new to me. This is also the Chinese theme song of the Korean network game "A3".

Utada ~ Wonder 'bout ~ SNATCH

Album - EXODUS
Style - R&B/Pop
Language - English
Release - 2004.09.08 [Japan only]
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★★
Official Website

Utada Hikaru became the biggest selling artist in Japanese music history when she made her debut in 1998 with the album 'First Love'. Hikki, as she is known to her fans,
has released a total of three albums since her debut and today at the age of 21 she is one of the biggest names in jpop. Utada spent her childhood in both New York and Tokyo,
experiencing an mixture of different cultural influences, which can be used to explain her unique and record breaking sound.

Yeah I know I said there would be no more Utada songs, but actually I lied. xD I just don't want to see her album plastered all over the net (by me) before her album has even hit stores. But I know if you're any kind of Hikki fan you will support her US debut and buy 'EXODUS' anyway, won't ya? ^____^
This is my favorite Utada song thus far, perhaps because it's the most urban sounding thing to come out of her leaked tracks. I thought 'Easy Breezy' was pop, 'Devil Inside' was dance and this to me is urban. I love her voice in it especially ~ You might think she sounds stupid cos she's slurring and trying to be sexy but just I think she sounds great. She should sing all her songs like this. =D

Zoey ~ Venus as a Boy ~ SNATCH

Release - 2003.09.03

</b> Official Website

Zoey is a 19 year old female vocalist from Ashiya. Her debut single "Venus as a Boy," was released by Columbia Records on September 3, 2003. She has since released her second single "Fake Smile" on November 5, 2003 and her first album "Zoey" on January 7, 2004. Zoey's music is mixed by Goetz, a German mixer who lives in London and there has done work for many top artists including; Craig David, Dido, 1 Giant Leap and the Pet Shop Boys. her music covers many genres including alternative, pop and ethnic grooves, and with noticeably superb arrangements and production.

Requested a couple of weeks ago, and recently obtained! =)
This was originally done by Björk but after listening to both versions I prefer Zoey's voice. I think it goes much nicer with the haunting melody of the song. Not only that but the instruments used are much prettier as is the overall effect on the song. Very soft and mellow, and yep you can tell it's Björk. Whether you like her or not though, Zoey's cover is pretty nice.

DOUBLE ~ Rollin' on ~ SNATCH

Album - Wonderful
Style
- R&B
Language - Japanese
Release - 2003.07.30
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★★
</b> Official Website

DOUBLE originally consisted of the two sister Takako and Sachiko who hit the J-R&B scene in Febuary 1998 with the fresh new single 'For Me'. DOUBLE climbed their way to success but this was cut short - the group was hit by a painful tragedy in May 1999 when Sachiko passed away due to a brain hemorage.
Takako decied to carry on the recording using the name DOUBLE and shortly after returning to the music scene in 2000, released the maxi-single 'Angel' in memory of her sister Sachiko, which shot straight to the top of the Oricon.
Today Takako is seen as one of Japan's most influencial and successful R&B artists.

I appoligise in advanced for trying to post songs by my favorite singers all the time, cos I think this is the second DOUBLE song I've posted. But, I don't think 'You got to' really does justice to how good this girl is and so here's another taster for you all.
Probably one of my top three DOUBLE songs, 'Rollin on' could play on American radio and you wouldn't even know she was a J-artist.. well maybe when she started singing in Japanese.. that might give it away xD ~ but you know, besides that. I tend to feel after Sachiko passed away, Takako began producing more American sounding stuff rather than the soft sweet stuff the two sisters did toghether. Both styles are great but I really love the 'Wonderful' album a lot and tend to prefer it over the earlier styles. If you want to buy some DOUBLE csds, I would recomend you start with that one.

BoA ~ QUINCY ~ SNATCH

Album - QUINCY
Style

Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.09.01
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★★
</b> Official Website

Kwon BoA (보아 ) first made her Korean debut at the tender age of 13 back in 2000 with the release of the album 'ID:Peace B'. The marketing strategy of BoA's record company was to produce an artist who could represent the whole of Asia fiting the criteria of both singer and dancer. Showing unique talent for someone so young, BoA rose to become one of Asia's biggest stars as was intended.
BoA released her first Japanese album in 2002, which was followed up by several others, all to this day marking her high status in Japan as well as her home land, Korea. BoA has also released several songs in English and Mandarin and collaberated with stars from all over the world.

So this is BoA's latest. I'm not just saying this cos I'm a BoA fan (can you tell much?) xD but this song is great!! It's got a really great beat to it, and the chorus is sooooo addictive!! I first heard this in the ad for KOSE make-up which BoA did a few weeks ago, and then saw the PV yesterday. You can tell BoA is growing up a bit ~ It's not just 'My Name' where she's starting to look more adult. In a recent interview BoA was asked what she thought of people saying her image had gone sexier and she just laughed and said 'well isn't that something all girls like to hear?'. Funnily some people have been weird about BoA's 'sexy' image, but she is practically eighteen now. o.O ~~~

Meyou ft. HI-D ~ I'm Your Sea ~ SNATCH

Album - Make Love
Style
- Hip Hop
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.04.02
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★☆
</b> Official Website

Meyou first debued in June 2004 with the single 'Atashi ga Irujanai' and has already been dubbed the new queen of hip-hop with her mixture of rap and singing skills as well as her somewhat risque image. Meyou has also done gigs in the US, and is produced by famous hip hop producer T-KURA.

I think Meyou is a great singer but I think she should stay away from rap ~ I just think she sounds really bad when she raps ~ she gets way too into it and ends up sounding croaky when she's trying to sound sexy. This is the best Meyou song I've heard so far, as I love the latin vibe it has to it. This is actually the B track to the single 'Hana' [flower] which is also a great song, but I really can't stand how she raps and this one is more her singing. I've never really explored HI-D, he sounds like Nelly though, don't you think? Might check him out some more. =)

day after tomorrow ~ lost angel ~ SNATCH

Single - lost angel
Style
- Rock/Ballad
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.08.25
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★☆☆
</b> Official Website

Day after tomorrow consists of three members; Koda misono -sister of Koda Kumi- (vocals), 鈴木大輔 [Daisuke Suzuki] (keyboards) and 北野正人 [Masato Kitano] (guitar). dat first made their debut in August 2002 with the single 'faraway' which featured in a Japanese candy commercial. Their sound producer is former Every Little Thing member, Mitsuru Igarashi, so much of their music is commented to having a similar sound to that of Every Little Thing's first three albums.

This is a PV rip (which explains the irritating alarm clock that plays near the beginning xD) but the quality is fine. As you might know, I'm not really into rocky stuff but I'll try to be objective concidering people have varied tastes. =D
Actually, I don't mind having to review this, cos it's a pretty decent song! misono's voice is kind of refreshing to me cos I don't usually go for her type of voice when I look for artists, and yet it's also kind of drawly at some points ~ I guess that's part of the whole theme of the song or something ~ whatever, it's got a good melody to it. Pretty nice..
Hmm.. ok, who wants to be my official J-rock reviewer?? xDD

Kazami ~ You ~ SNATCH

Single - YOU ~向日葵~ [Hiwamari]
Style
- R&B/ Ballad
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.08.18
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★☆
</b> Official Website

Kazami made her debut with the impressive single 'Dreamer' in January 2000 when she was just fourteen years old and became instantly noticed for her vocal talent, gaining a small hit. Kazami is currently one of Sony's most promising urban artists and her debut album 'Sprout' which saw her collaberating with artists such as Miss Monday and Sphere of Influence rose to the top ten on the Oricon.

I've been following Kazami since she made her debut with 'Dreamer' and was pleased to hear of her new release. There are two versions of this, one featuring tsutchie. This is the original version used for the Samurai Champloo soundtrack. I think it's a really beautiful song, but if you're new to Kazami maybe try some other stuff before you judge off this. I would recommend 'Dreamer' and 'Rhythm' for a start. She isn't particualrly promenent in the music business but her songs are very decent to those who appreciate her style.

Release - 1999.01.21
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★☆
</b> Official Website

MOOMIN made his debut in February 1997 with the single 'Fly Again' and remains a talked about talent in Japan's soul sector of the music industry.
Wow, could this be the most obscure artist I've ever had to find info about? =D
This song is really smooth. It makes me think of somebody like Stevie Wonder ~ pretty old skool sounding xD! Really like this however. I've never even heard of MOOMIN (wasn't that a cartoon?..oh my God, and I call myself an R&B fan xD)) ~ actually I was looking for songs by ACO and just stumbled across this. Maybe I'm just in a slow song mood today but I'm really feeling this!! Maybe It's cos I've been playing 'QUINCY' and 'wonder 'bout' so much.. my brain must need a break from dance songs..*__*

UPDATE > NEWS / Michico / AI / MISIA / SUITE CHIC / SHY / Jung Chul [14 Aug 2004|04:04pm]
[ mood | content ]

Apologies for the long wait. Had some things going on in the real world which needed my attention.

If you don't see your request up, it's because I couldn't get it. It does not mean I ignored your request because I don't ignore any of them. It means I've spent a great deal of time on WinMX trying to find it and I will probably keep checking back. When I don't own a song, I obviously need to go look for it, and some of them are harder to get than others. :/
I also decided not to post any more Utada songs due to all these scary copywrite things I've been reading lately, so please don't request them in the future. However, Utada Hikaru is ok! ^_^

NEWS ~ 紅く燃ゆる太陽 (Akaku Moyuru Taiyo) ~ SNATCH</p>Single - Akaku Moyuru Taiyo
Style
- Pop
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.7.22
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★☆☆

NewS are a Johnny's group developed in 2003. Their name is an acronym for 'Noth' 'South' 'East' 'West' and the group consists of nine members ~ Yamashita Tomohisa, Koyama Keiichiro, Uchi Hiroki, Nishikido Ryo, Kato Shigeaki, Kusano Hironori, Masuda Takahisa & Tegoshi Yuuyahave ~ two of whom are rotated in and out of the group on occassion.

NEWS are honestly not a group I have ever really explored so I can't compare this a previous song of theirs in terms of its style. I do like this though. Its got a funky dance-club feel to it!
Akaku Moyuru Taiyo is also the theme song for the Female Volley Ball World Grand Prix 2004

Michico ft. VERBAL (m-flo) ~ tha superstar ~ SNATCH</p>Album - smooth II
Style - R&B/Rap
Language - Japanese
Release - 2002.09.19
Quality - High
Rating -★★★★☆
Official Website

Michico started off doing production work for other artists such as Amuro Namie and Crystal Kay as well as backing vocals and song writing. She made her solo debut in the UK on the album 'Best of T. Kura' as she is married to T. Kura. Her highly produced debut album 'I Do' was acclaimed as having a very Americanized flavour, something Michico's productions for other artists are also noted for. What is special about Michico, is her huge success in terms of producing songs in an industry which is very male dominated.

I was really happy when I found out all the cool songs Michico has produced (another one of which is in this update if you scroll down), because as stated most producers in the world are men and some of the songs she's done are some of my favorite songs ever!! I don't really care much for Michico's voice, although I will listen to her because her songs are very well done. This one is a collab with VERBAL from m-flo doing the rap as always, adding to the whole American hiphop feel this song has. I would recomend Michico to a JR&B fan because she has elements of a few good singers combined in one. The type of songs she does are like DOUBLE's and Namie's late stuff, only coupled with her own hypnotic and warbley vocals.

AI ft Afra & Tucka ~ Watch Out! ~ SNATCH

Album - 2004 AI
Style
- Rap
Language - Japanese
Release - 2004/08/04
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★☆☆
</b> Official Website

Born in LA to Italian-American mother and Japanese father AI started gospel singing at the age of 13, her first taste of music and surely not her last. Today AI is one of Japan's most success singer/rappers. Her recent album '2004 A.I' ranked at number 3 on the Oricon charts selling more than 100,000 in the first two weeks of release alone and her recent tour for the new album was sold out within days. AI has done collabs with many well known R&B singers in japan such as DOUBLE, Amuro Namie and Hirai Ken. This year she performed at the MTV Asia awards among top ranking artists such as Mr. Children and Chemistry. AI also won an award this year at the Space Shower TV video mucic awards for Best Video.

I am a fan of AI to an extent but I was kind of disappointed with this song. It kinda gives me a headache.. XD! Ok, what I mean is, there are a lot of unneccesary instruments. the whole orchestra just sounds totally chaotic, especially at the end of the song when the guitars and percussion start going mental. It's a really energetic song. I'll give her that. AI just reminds me more and more of Missy Elliot with this. Her productions are original and fresh, differing within their genre, but I felt like she just got it wrong this time. Ok-ish. ^^;

MISIA ~ Rhythm Reflection ~ SNATCH

Album - Marvelous
Style
- Pop/R&B
Language - Japanese
Release - 2001/04/25
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★★★
</b> Official Website

MISIA first debuted in 1998 with the album 'Mother Father Brother Sister' and has released six albums to date as well as a handful of remixed and special edition cuts. She gradually gained recognition because of her deep and strong vocals, and has risen to become one of Asia's biggest stars. Little is known about MISIA's real character. The name MISIA comes from a combination of her real name, Misaki, and the word 'Asia'. The young artist varies in style from pop, urban and even sampes at rock. She is most noticed for her ballads, particularly the song 'Everything' from her 2001 album, 'Marvelous' which spent a record number of weeks at number 1 on the Oricon.

I was asked to post up another MISIA song 'not from her first album or her most recent album'. Do you know what a hard job that was??! If y'all want MISIA songs in future you have to be specific! It's way too hard for me to chose a song... I love them all!! =P Literally it took me a good few hours to make my decission on 'Rhythm Reflection'. This is one of MISIA's R&B upbeat funky tracks and its just great!! I love the voice synthesiser she uses in the chorus. The PV for this song is also very cool. It was one of the first Jpop PVs I ever saw and one of my faves still!! =)

SHY ~ Precious Days ~ SNATCH

Single - Precious Days
Style

Language - Japanese
Release - 2004.04.22
Quality - High
Rating - ★★★☆☆
</b> Official Website

SHY made her debut with the single 'Double Limits' in April 2003 and finally released her debut album 'CIRCUS' in November. her style seems to be somewhat like melody. with a folk pop influence hinting on her songs.

As you can see, my knowledge of SHY is rubbish :/ ..there really isn't a lot of English info for me to obtain on her, and even her website was no help. I really like this song anyway. It's refreshing in amongst all this urban stuff, hehe. ^^ The song itself is really upbeat and happy so it cheers me up when I feel a bit blah. Look forward to hearing more of SHY. =)

SUITE CHIC was a project formed in 2003 by a number of JR&B singers who came toghether to do numerous collabs for a one time album. At the forefront of this project is super singing sensation Amuro Namie who is featured on a large portion of the albums tracks. Other performers include Michico, Crystal Kay, m-flo, Zeebra, Dabo and a handful of other top R&B singers.Although a remix album followed up ~ 'When Pop Hits The Lab' SUITE CHIC has been dormant for over a year now, but have left a huge impression on the Japanese urban music scene with songs such as 'Uh Uh' 'Good Life' and 'Sing My Life'. Rumours often circulate of future collaberations between the artists.

Those who have heard this song know just how great it is. Produced by Michico for Naime and AI, 'Uh Uh' is full of dance floor energy and has a really repetitive hook that will not leave you after you stop listening. XD Top recomendation!! ^_^

Jung Chul debuted with the album 'Now & Forever' in August of 2003 and can be mostly recognised for his sweet sounding ballads. Although his music is little talked about, Jung Chul is noticed as a wothwhile artist within Korea.

I have been looking for this song for absolutely ages. You have no idea how glad I am to have it!! I first heard a sample of it a couple of months back and I just stopped to listen to this beautiful song. It wasn't until say, two days ago that i finally got the mp3! *__* I'm so happy that I'm sharing my joy! =D
